RER B線のご案内

もっとも早くそして安い料金でシャルル・ド・ゴール空港(CDG)からパリ市内へ移動するには、ターミナル2、またはターミナル3のロワシーポールから出発する高速郊外鉄道RER B線を利用するのがおすすめです。

このRER B線は、パリ市内を南北に走る路線で、主な停車駅は、ロンドン・パリ間のユーロスターの到着駅であるロンドン・パリ間のユーロスターの到着駅であるパリ北駅、メトロ4号線と他のRER B線との「総合」乗り換えができるシャトレ・レ・アル駅、サン・ミシェル/ノートルダム駅、ルクサンブール駅、ポール・ロワイヤル駅、ダンフェール・ロシュロー駅、シテ・ユニヴェルシテール駅で、南に位置するオルリー空港までを結びます（オルリー空港ではアントニー駅でオルリーヴァールへの乗り換えが必要です）。

シャルル・ド・ゴール空港には、「シャルル・ド・ゴール空港第1駅」と「シャルル・ド・ゴール空港第2TGV駅」の2つの駅があり、第1駅はロワシーポールビル内のターミナル3の近くにあり、第2TGV駅はターミナル2Eと2Cの間にあります（CDG空港の地図は以下でご覧になれます）。

シャルル・ド・ゴール空港からパリ市内への始発電車は4:56、「シャルル・ド・ゴール空港第2TGV駅」発で、2分後に「シャルル・ド・ゴール空港第1駅」に到着、市内のパリ北駅の到着は5:26です。

CDGからパリ市内へのRER B線の最終電車は日付が変わる直前の23:56発で、パリ北駅の到着は0:26です。（最新の情報はRER B 線の時刻表をご覧ください）。CDGからパリ市内へのダイヤは、休日を含めて毎日同じです（全時間帯の時刻は、「RER B線の時刻表」ページをご覧ください）。

***ご注意。2010年から2013年中頃までおこなわれているRER B線の建設工事にともない、夜の遅い時間帯に発着するCDG空港発パリ市内行きの列車に影響が出ています。月曜から金曜のCDG空港発パリ市内行き直通列車の最終は22:55発です（土曜、日曜日の時刻ついては変更ありません）。上記の時間外にRER B線を利用する場合は、空港第1駅からAulnay-sous-Bois駅行きのシャトルバスに乗ってください。Aulnay-sous-Bois駅から出るRER B線で市内へ移動できます。

空港駅まで移動する

ターミナル1に到着した場合は、シャトルトレインCDGVALに乗ってRER駅のあるターミナル3内ロワシーポールに移動してください駅の名前は「シャルル・ド・ゴール空港第1駅」ですが、「ターミナル1」の「1」と混同しないように注意してください。この「第1」は、「ターミナル1」の意味ではなく、単にCDG空港内にある2つの駅のうち、1番目の駅という意味です。ターミナル1内のCDGVALトラムの案内にしたがって進めば問題ありません。

紛らわしいですが、ターミナル3はターミナル1と2の間に位置しますので、西方向から東方向へターミナル移動する場合は、ターミナル1、3、2の順になります。CDGVALトラムはターミナル1と3の間の駐車場駅(Parc P-r)と、ターミナル3と2の間の駐車場駅 (Park P-x)に停車しますので、降り間違えることのないようご注意ください。車内では、各駅に到着する際にフランス語と英語のアナウンスでお知らせします。

ターミナル2には7つのサブターミナルがあります。ターミナル2に到着した場合は、サブターミナル2Eと2Fの間にある乗車駅に移動してください。パリ行きRERの乗車駅を示す案内はターミナル内のあちこちにあります。

チケットを買う

シャルル・ド・ゴール空港第1駅は広く大きなアトリウム状の建物で、 シャルル・ド・ゴール空港第2TGV駅は白い壁の3階建てでエスカレーターの付いた独特のデザインですが、どちらの駅もチケットの券売機がたくさん設置してあります。切符は必ずイル・デ・フランスの青い券売機で購入し、SNCF TGVの黄色い券売機は使わないでください。これから乗るRER B線の切符は青い券売機でしか購入できませんのでご注意ください。

さらにご注意いただきたいのは、アメリカと、ヨーロッパ以外の会社が発行するクレジットカードは、ICチップが内蔵されておらず4桁PIN番号が登録されていない場合は、券売機で利用することができません。その場合、シャルル・ド・ゴール空港第1駅では大きな有人窓口があり、3名のSNCF（フランス国鉄）のスタッフがRERのチケットを販売しています。ターミナル2では、1階に濃いガラスで仕切られた事務所があり、端のカウンターでRERとSNCF、/TGVのチケットを販売しています。このオフィスで購入する場合は、正面向かって左側の入り口がパリ市内行きRERのチケット売り場です。正面向かって右側の入り口は、それ以外の目的地への切符のみを販売しています。通常は英語が話せるスタッフが少なくとも1名はおり、窓口の端にイギリスの国旗が表示されていることで分かります。どの窓口でも、パリ市内までの片道チケット「Paris Aller-Simple」を購入できます。パリ市内までのRER B線の運賃は、大人で約9.50€、子ども（9歳以下）で6.65€です。

RERに乗る

シャルル・ド・ゴール空港第1駅では、券売機エリアからプラットフォームが見えるので非常に分かりやすくなっています。また、グリーンのランプがついた回転式改札機も目に入ります。シャルル・ド・ゴール空港第2TGV駅も分かりやすく、「パリ市内行き電車」の案内にしたがって進むだけですので、プラットフォームから発車するパリ市内行きの列車に乗り損ねる心配はありません。列車の停車駅は、プラットフォームで列車を待っている間にモニターで確認できます主な停車駅は、パリ北駅、シャトレ・レ・アル駅、サン・ミシェル/ノートルダム駅、ルクサンブール駅で、その他の駅にも停車します。上記4つの駅はすべてパリの中心地にあるので、旅行者の大半はこの駅のいずれかに向かいます。パリ北駅はサクレ・クールやモンマルトル近辺にあるホテルを利用する場合、シャトレ・レ・アル駅はルーブル地区のホテルを利用する場合の最寄り駅で、サン・ミシェル/ノートルダム駅はセーヌ川を渡った左岸に位置し、ルクサンブール駅はリュクサンブール公園の近くにあります。

急ぐ場合には、両空港駅発の「快速列車」を利用することもできます。CDG駅から上記4つのパリ市内駅までの停車駅は、モニターで簡単に確認できます。 快速列車はシャルル・ド・ゴール空港第1駅からパリ北駅までノンストップで走ります。普通列車はシャルル・ド・ゴール空港第1駅からパリ北駅までだいたい9つの駅に停車します。快速列車に乗れば普通列車よりも約12分早く到着しますが、普通列車でもパリ北駅までの所要時間は34分程度です。

*** RER- B 線工事中のため、シャルル・ド・ゴール国際空港第２ターミナルからの最終列車はの１０：５５PM (２２:５５) です（月曜日から金曜日、２０１3年半ばまで）。週末は工事の影響はありませんが、２０１０年１１月６日は終日、列車はシャルル・ド・ゴール国際空港には止まりません。

シャルル・ド・ゴール国際空港到着

ロワシー・シャルル・ド・ゴール国際空港第２ターミナル到着後、飛行機を降りてからまず最初に入国審査があります。これは、あなたの飛行機の座席位置によって、とても速いことがあります。もしあなたが飛行機の最前列付近に座っていて最初に飛行機を降りたのであれば、フランス警察による入国審査を通る最初の人となります。この場合、入国審査を５分以内に通過することができます。（もし、あなたが大きい飛行機を降りる最後の人であれば４０分かかります）。

次に、コンベアーで荷物を受け取ります。荷物取り扱いに特別なことが起こらない限り、３０分程で荷物受け取りが完了するでしょう。しかし、場合によっては３０分以上になるかもしれません。

次は荷物の税関検査です。これは入国審査とは別に、荷物受け取りエリアの出口付近にいる税関検査官によって行われます。税関検査官はたいてい搭乗者をチェックして、彼らの興味を誘うような人物を呼び止めます。この後、シャルル・ド・ゴール国際空港のセキュリティー区外へ出て、自由にパリや他の都市へ列車で行くことが出来ます。

もし、シェンゲン圏（ヨーロッパ無国境地区）ターミナルである２Gターミナルから到着の場合は、RER列車に乗るために、シャトルバスを使って２E/F ターミナルへ移動する必要があります。シャトルバスは４、５分間隔で運行しており、２G到着エリアのすぐ外にあります。〔　Lynne P.さん、更新情報ありがとうございます　〕

第２ターミナルの駅へ行くには

シャルル・ド・ゴール国際空港第２ターミナルの到着ホールはこんな感じです：

青の頭上サインに気付かれましたか？これらはGare SNCF（国鉄の駅）、Paris par Train（パリ行き電車）を指しています。これらのサインに従って、第２ターミナル内にある駅へ進んで下さい。

第２ターミナルのサブターミナル間にある動く歩道は、歩く時間を確実に速めてくれます。

駅の辺りへ近づくにつれ、さらに駅へと指示するサインが見られます。

駅エリアへ着いたら、吹き抜けの４階に出ます。端にはシェラトンホテル、もう一方の端にはHSBC銀行があり、Gare/Station/Paris by Train（国鉄駅/パリ行き電車）を示すサインがいくつもあります。

３階から反対方向を撮った駅の吹き抜けの写真です（１階上にHSBC 銀行が見えます）。駅の場所を示すサインはとても明確です。あなたはHSBC銀行の機械（下の写真の上部右側に見える）でユーロの現金を下ろしたいかもしれません。もしあなたのクレジットカード（ヨーロッパ発行でない、ICカードでない）が自動券売機で使えない場合は、SNCF/RATP（フランス国鉄/独立パリ交通管理局）の券売窓口でも使えないでしょう。このため、切符を買うのにユーロの現金が必要です。

吹き抜けの一番下の２階は、実際の駅の階になっていて、ホールの片側に色々なお店や飲食店があり、もう一方にSNCF（フランス国鉄）券売オフィスがあります。駅の真ん中の至る所に、青と緑のBilletterie Ile-de-France 自動券売機があります。

SNCF（フランス国鉄）券売オフィスは２つに分かれており、それぞれ特定の種類のチケットしか売っていません。向かって左側の券売オフィスは、パリ内やイル＝ド＝フランス地域圏（Billets Ile-de-France として知られる）を移動する券やパスを売っています。

右側のオフィスは、フランス内の他の都市を移動する列車用のTGVチケット（販売、コレクション、払い戻し、変更）を取り扱っています。

もしあなたがICクレジットカードかユーロコインを持っていて、単純な乗車券を購入したい場合は、青のBilletterie 自動販売機 を使って乗車券を購入出来ます。（この写真の券売機は第３ターミナルのものですが、機械は同じです）。 Pass Navigo （パス・ナヴィゴ）やParis Visite cards（ パリ・ヴィジット）などの数日パスは機械では売られていません。パスを購入するには、券売オフィスへ行かなくてはなりません。

北アメリカ発行のクレジットカードのほとんどは、これらの機械で使えないことを心に留めて置いて下さい。なぜなら大抵の場合、IC チップやPIN番号が保護されていないからです。

乗車券やパスを買ったら、駅プラットフォームへ向かって下さい。プラットフォームのある１階へは、さらにエスカレーターか階段で下りる必要があります。パリのプラットフォームは　“Voie”（“プラットフォーム”）１１、１２と書いてあり、また、ロワシー・シャルル・ド・ゴール国際空港とパリ市内間を運行する地域エキスプレスネットワーク列車である、“RER B Paris par Train“（“RER- B線パリ行き”）とも示してあります。

これは、シャルル・ド・ゴール国際空港第２ターミナル駅にある、パリ行き列車のプラットフォームを見下ろす写真です。

プラットフォームでは、すべての列車がパリ行きだというサインがあります。なぜなら、シャルル・ド・ゴール国際空港は、RER- B線の終点で、最終駅だからです。

プラットフォームのサインは、シャルル・ド・ゴール国際空港２TGVと書いてありますが、この写真のプラットフォームはTGV列車用のプラットフォームではありません。単に、駅全体の名前です。

TGV列車のプラットフォームは、駅の反対側からアクセス出来ます。もし、パリ以外の他都市へ行くためにTGV 列車を使う場合は、列車のプラットフォームはこのような感じです：

移動の間中は必ず乗車券を携帯しておいて下さい。乗車券検査官から有効な券を見せるように言われることもあり、さもなければ罰金として３５ユーロ支払わなくてはなりません。また、乗車券はパリの到着駅を出るためにも必要で、入り口を守るのと同様に、出口を守る改札があります。パリに到着したら、持っているRER（フランス地下鉄）乗車券は、パリメトロや他のRER路線への乗り継ぎにも有効です。パリ市内から他のメトロやRER列車へ乗り継ぐのに、別のParis Metro/RER Ticket T+を購入する必要はありません（バスやトラムは新しい券が必要です）。

パリ市内の最初の駅は、Gare du Nord（ガール・デュ・ノード）で、シャルル・ド・ゴール国際空港第２ターミナルを出てから３０分ほどかかります。Gare du Nord駅 の後、RER- B線のパリ市内の駅は、Chatelet Les Halles（シャトレ・レ・アール）、St. Michel-Notre Dame（サン・ミシェル＝ノートルダム）、Luxembourg（ルクセンブルグ）、 Port Royal（ポートロイヤル）、Denfert Rochereau（ダンフェール・ロシュロー）、Cité Universitaire（シテ・ユニヴェルシテール）です。

A propos du RER B

Le moyen le plus rapide et le moins cher de se rendre à Paris depuis l’Aéroport Roissy-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) est de prendre le RER B au départ des Terminal 2 et Terminal 3/Roissypole de CDG.

Le RER B traverse le centre de Paris du nord au sud, et s’arrête à Gare du Nord, la gare Eurostar Londres – Paris, puis à Châtelet Les Halles la “super” station de correspondance avec 4 lignes de métro et 3 lignes de RER, puis Saint Michel/Notre Dame, Luxembourg, Port Royal, Denfert-Rochereau, Cité Universitaire, et continue au sud vers l’Aéroport Orly (un changement à la station Antony pour le métro OrlyVal est nécessaire).

Les deux stations de l’Aéroport Charles de Gaulle sont nommées “Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 1″ et “Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 2 – TGV”, la première étant située à proximité du Terminal 3 dans le bâtiment Roissypole et la seconde étant située entre le Terminal 2E et 2C. (Une carte de l’aéroport CDG est fournie ci-dessous).

Le premier train au départ de l’Aéroport Charles de Gaulle en direction de Paris part à 4:56 du Terminal 2, s’arrête à la station “Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 1″ deux minutes plus tard, puis arrive ensuite à Gare du Nord à Paris à 5:26.

Le dernier RER B à partir de l’aéroport CDG en direction de Paris part à 23:56 (mise à jour: voir l’avertissement ci-dessous), et arrive à Paris Gare du Nord à 00:26. Les horaires des RER de CDG à Paris sont les mêmes tous les jours de la semaine, y compris durant les vacances. (Pour les horaires complets, voir les horaires du RER B).

*** Avertissement! Des travaux sont en cours sur la ligne du RER B, de 2010 à juin 7, 2013 et affectent les derniers trains en soirée au départ de l’aéroport CDG en direction de Paris. Le dernier train direct au départ de l’aéroport CDG en direction de Paris part à 22:55, du lundi au vendredi (les trains du samedi et du dimanche ne sont pas affectés). Les voyageurs essayant de prendre le RER B après cet horaire seront invités à prendre une navette à la station Aéroport CDG 1 jusqu’à la station Aulnay-sous-Bois où le RER B fonctionne normalement en direction de Paris.

Se rendre à la station

Si vous atterrissez au Terminal 1 vous devrez emprunter un train-navette nommé CDGVAL pour le Terminal 3/Roissypole afin de prendre le RER. Le nom de cette station est “Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 1″. Ne pensez pas que le “1″ dans le nom signifie “Terminal 1″, car ce n’est pas le cas, il s’agit simplement de la première des deux stations de l’Aéroport CDG. Il vous suffit de suivre les indications pour le tram CDGVAL à l’intérieur du Terminal 1.

Pour rendre les choses plus confuses, le Terminal 3 est situé entre les Terminaux 1 et 2, donc en vous déplaçant d’ouest en est à travers les terminaux vous atteindrez le Terminal 1, puis le 3, et enfin le 2. Gardez à l’esprit que le tram CDGVAL s’arrête aux parkings entre les Terminaux 1 et 3 (Parc P-r), et Terminaux 3 et 2 (Park P-x), donc ne descendez pas trop tôt du CDGVAL. Des annonces vocales en anglais et en français sont faites à chaque arrêt pour vous guider.

Si vous atterrissez au Terminal 2, gardez à l’esprit qu’il y a 7 sous-terminaux et que vous devrez vous rendre à la station située entre les sous-terminaux 2E et 2F. Il y aura de nombreux signes à travers les terminaux indiquant le RER pour Paris.

Acheter les Tickets de RER

A la station Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 1, un grand atrium ouvert en béton, ou à la station du Terminal 2, un impressionnant ensemble d’escalators blancs à trois niveaux, vous trouverez de nombreuses machines automatiques vendant des tickets. Assurez-vous d’utiliser les machines bleus Billetterie Ile-de-France et non les machines jaunes SNCF TGV , étant donné que seules les machines bleues vendent les tickets que vous recherchez pour le RER B.

Il est encore plus important de noter que la plupart des cartes de crédit américaines et non-européennes (sans les puces intelligentes et sans numéros à 4 chiffres) ne fonctionnera pas avec ces machines. A la station de CDG 1 il y a un grand guichet avec 3 employés SNCF qui vendent des billets individuels pour le RER. Au Terminal 2, il y a une salle en verre foncé à carreaux au niveau inférieur, dont un côté assure la vente des billets de RER et SNCF / TGV. Si vous êtes confronté à cette pièce de verre, l’entrée sur la gauche sera pour les billets RER à Paris. L’entrée sur la droite est uniquement pour les billets à destination d’autres villes. Il y a presque toujours au moins un vendeur de billet qui parle anglais et il sera signalé par un petit drapeau britannique dans le coin de sa fenêtre. De toute façon, vous cherchez à acheter un billet pour “Paris Aller-Simple» [Poire-Ee Alleh-Som-Pleh] qui est un billet aller simple. Le prix devrait être d’environ € 9,10 pour les billets adulte et € 6,40 pour les enfants (9 ans et moins) pour les billets RER B direction Paris.

Prendre le RER

Pour la station de l’Aéroport CDG 1 la direction devrait être assez évident étant donné que le quai est visible depuis la zone des machines automatiques et vous verrez des tourniquets avec des reflets verts. Le Terminal 2 n’est pas bien pire: il suffit de suivre les panneaux qui disent «Trains en direction de Paris”. Il serait assez difficile de les manquer et tous les trains à partir de ces quais sont en direction de Paris. Vous pouvez consulter les écrans situés sur le quai pour voir tous les arrêts du RER. Les arrêts devraient inclure la Gare du Nord, Châtelet les Halles, Saint-Michel-Notre Dame, Luxembourg, et autres. Les quatre cités ici sont ceux que la majorité des voyageurs rechercheront car ils sont tous au centre de Paris. Gare du Nord est la meilleure sortie pour ceux dont l’hôtel est situé près du Sacré Coeur / Montmartre, Châtelet les Halles pour ceux qui restent près du Louvre, Saint-Michel-Notre Dame est sur la Seine (rive gauche), et le Luxembourg est à proximité du Jardin du Luxembourg (Jardin du Luxembourg).

Pour les voyageurs qui en veulent plus, il y a des RER B «express» qui partent des deux stations. Il suffit de regarder les écrans sur le quai et de vérifier le nombre d’arrêts entre les stations de CDG et les quatre stations parisiennes centrales mentionnées ci-dessus. L’express RER B ira directement de l’Aéroport CDG 1 à Gare du Nord, sans s’arrêter à aucune station entre les deux. Le train régulier fera environ 9 arrêts entre l’aéroport CDG et Gare du Nord. Horaires – Premiers et derniers trains du Métro et RER A RER B.

i) Getting to Pont de Sèvres (Metro line 9, direction Pont de Sèvres). Metro line 9 has many transfer points and makes Pont de Sèvres bus terminal easy to reach.

You can transfer to Metro line 9 from any of the following Metro lines and corresponding stations:

• Metro line 1 at Franklin D. Roosevelt
• Metro line 4 at Strasbourg St-Denis
• Metro line 5 at Oberkampf
• Metro line 6 at Trocadéro
• Metro line 8 at Richelieu Drouot
• Metro line 10 at Michel-Ange
• Metro line 11 at Havre Caumartin
• Metro line 13 at Miromesnil

You’ll take Metro line 9, direction Pont de Sèvres, to the final end station, i.e Pont de Sèvres. Upon arrival (follow the crowd and) walk to the adjoining bus terminal at ground level, which will be clearly marked within the Metro (usually by a blue circle with “BUS” inside). You can also follow red coloured Bus 171 signs within the Metro which will lead you up to ground level.

ii) At the Bus Station there are more than a dozen buses, but the bus you need to take is Bus 171.  Above is a photo of its departure at Pont de Sevres bus terminal and Chateau de Versailles is its last stop. The journey is roughly 30 minutes.

The price for the trip from Paris to Versailles depends on whether you began the journey on Metro or directly at Pont de Sèvres bus station.

If using regular Metro/Bus tickets (which are same type of tickets: Ticket T+) you’ll need two tickets with total cost of 3.40€, one way.  One ticket will be used for the Metro to Pont de Sèvres and another ticket for Bus 171 from Pont de Sèvres to Versailles, which is in Zone 4 and the Metro only covers Zones 1-2.

Side note: Regular Metro tickets, once used for the Metro, are never valid for transfers onto buses. Transfers from Metro to RER trains are permitted, as are transfers from bus to bus, but you cannot transfer from Metro/RER trains to buses or vice versa using the same Paris Metro ticket t+.  To complicate things a bit further, bus tickets purchased on board buses… are not valid for transfer, even from bus to bus and cost more, €2 vs. €1.70.

If you are within walking distance to the bus station, you’ll only need one Metro/Bus Ticket T+ for the bus ride 1,70 €.  As noted above, try to purchase a ticket before you arrive at the bus, since the driver will charge you 2€ if buying on board.  (Note: a carnet or booklet of single-use Paris bus/Metro tickets can be purchased at a slight discount, and it makes sense if you’ll be traveling to other places as the tickets are used for all forms of transportation within the city of Paris. See Paris Ticket t+ for more details).

Zone 1-4 day passes good for Metro, train, bus (Ticket Mobilis) and Zone 1-4 Navigo week passes are valid for travel to Versailles.  For Ticket Mobilis, which is actually a paper ticket, insert the ticket into the ticket reader/validator next to the driver, about the size of a tissue box, attached lengthwise vertically from a pole. The machine should light-up a green rectangle confirming the ticket is valid.  For Navigo cards, simply hold the pass against the purple part of the ticket reader/validator to validate your pass has the correct zones purchased.

To return from Versailles to Paris by bus you’ll need to take Bus 171 from the stop on the opposite side of the street from your arrival on Bus 171. It should be the first bus stop you encounter when walking directly back from Chateau de Versailles along Avenue de Paris. Here’s a Google Map view with the bus actually at the stop.

In 2009, the Moulin Rouge turned 120 years old, surviving a fire that occurred in 1915. This venue has seen various forms of entertainment throughout the years but it still performs what it’s best known for, cabaret and the can-can.

Gare Saint-Lazare is one of six train stations in Paris. It is the terminus station for suburban and grand line trains including Transilien (2 lines- Lines J & L), intercités (3 lines- all lignes Normandes, and TER Haute Normandie (serving upper Normandy).

Gare Saint Lazare is centrally located close to the metro, RER E, and various bus stops. There is one bus stop on Rue de Rome and a bus station located close to the intersection of Place Gabriel Péri and Rue de Rome.

Outside to the train station you’ll find a column shaped sculpture of clocks.

This train station has been undergoing renovation since mid-2008 and is scheduled to complete at the end of this year, 2011. The Saint-Lazare Metro station has a dome shaped covering about 10 metres (~ 30 feet) from the front steps of the train station. This station services Metro lines 3, 12, 13, and 14. While underground you’ll find a path connecting the Metro station to Haussmann-Saint-Lazare station, which is a station for the RER E line.

There is a Vélib station located on the corner of Rue de Rome and Rue de Amsterdam, because of the volume of traffic that goes through this station it might be hard to get a bike at this location.

Inside the train station you’ll find 27 lanes (voies). Generally lanes 1-18 are servicing the suburban and intercity trains while lanes 19-27 servicing the Grand Line trains. You’ll see signs above the voies indicating what they are normally scheduled for.

This train station has an SNCF ticket outlet and also automated machines (for SNCF, TER, Ile-de-France tickets). There is an information desk open generally from 07:00 to 22:00 Monday to Fridays, 07:00-14:00 Saturdays, and 14:00-22:00 Sundays.

If you are using a billet origine-destination or a grande ligne ticket, you will have to validate it before getting on the train (Note: Some print at home tickets will not need to be validated and will be scanned once boarded). There are two different machines, one for billet origine-destination and one for grande ligne tickets.

This station has only one floor and does not have a luggage storage. It does however have a lost and found office located close to lane 27. The washrooms cost 0,50€ and are located in front of lane 23 & 24 and there are food kiosks within the station.

Paris Transport Security & Safety Tips

There are a few choices to get to the Grand Arch as La Défense is a major business district. The closest Paris Metro station to the Grand Arch in La Défense is La Défense on Metro line 1. Because of the importance of the region, it is a well serviced with the tramway (T2), SNCF Trains (intercity trains, 2 different lines) and the RER A.

At La Défense, you will find the largest mall in Paris, Les Quatres Temps. It has a wide range of stores from women’s clothing, sports and outdoor goods to DIY stores.

La Défense is located northwest of Paris. It’s on the outskirts of the City of Paris but falls under the Ile-de-France and straddles the municipalities of Courbevoie, Puteaux and Nanterre.

How to get to Château de Versailles from Central Paris

Option 1: RER C – Yellow line

Locate either train stations or metro stations in central Paris that will connect you to RER C, the yellow RER line. Listed below in the flowchart are all the RER C stations within Zone 1, their arrondissements and any connecting metro lines (ie. if you are closer to a metro station, you can hop onto any of the listed metro lines to get to the specific RER station). All RER lines fork and have several different end terminals, so you’ll have to pay attention to make sure that you’re on the right train. The terminus station to get to Château de Versailles is ‘Versailles Rive Gauche’ (listed as C5 on the RER map).

Between central Paris and Versailles, you need to take the RER C Line in a way which will lead you to ‘Javel’ station and later to ‘Porchefontaine’ station. Since the line forks, it will really depend on where you start to know how many stations away Javel and Porchefontaine will be. These stations will indicate whether you’re heading in the right direction to end up at ‘Versailles Rive Gauche’.

Example: If you start at Avenue Henri Martin, you’ll need to pass Boulainvilliers, Avenue du President Kennedy and then Javel, if instead of passing Javel you hit Champ de Mars it means you’re going the wrong direction. This is an easy mistake to make and if that happens, just get off at the station and look for the signs in the station which go towards the right direction. Make sure not to exit the station or else you’ll need to use a new ticket over a common mistake.

Once you arrive at ‘Versailles Rive Gauche’, Château de Versailles will take about five minutes to walk to.

Ticket t+ cannot be used for this trip. Versailles is within the Île-de-France region. The ticket t+ is only valid on RERs within the city of Paris (ie. Zone 1). Instead you’ll have to get a ‘Billet Origine-Destination‘ to/from Versailles-Rive-Gauche at 4,10€ per direction (price current as of January 2013).

Note: If you plan to use any other forms of public transportation in the day, I recommend getting an unlimited Mobilis pass for the day from Zone 1-4; you’d only need to take one more round trip to make it worthwhile in terms of cost (pass costs 10,85€).

During normal working hours, ‘Versaille Rive Gauche’ station has someone selling tickets who may speak a bit of English. Be prepared for the language barrier by having a map handy and the places you need to get to written down.

Otherwise, happy traveling! Getting to the station from Château de Versailles is just as easy, there’s clear signage to help you navigate back to the train station and then hop onto the RER C line to Paris and you’re set. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can always take the bus back too!

Gares serve surface level trains traveling in and out of the city of Paris to surrounding suburbs and further out to cities both nationally around France and internationally on either high-speed TGV lines (up to 320km/h or 200mph) or normal speed train lines (roughly 110km/h or 68mph).

There are seven commonly used gares within central Paris: Gare du Nord, Gare de l’Est, Gare de Lyon, Gare d’Austerlitz, Gare Saint-Lazare, Gare Montparnasse, and Gare de Bercy.

Paris Metro stations serve one or more Metro lines and some also serve RER trains while within central Paris (Paris transport zones 1-2).

Metro (ie. subway), RER (Réseau Express Regionale – ie. above/below ground light rail), and Tram: all form part of the light rail system serving central and suburban Paris.

The Metro and RER stations within Paris have both above & below ground stations (although most are below ground).  Trams of which there are three (soon to be four with more in the works) generally have only street level stops along the western (T2), southern (T3) and northern (T1) edges of Paris & suburbs.  The exception being stops near the terminus stations where these trams are often underground or within a building.

One confusing thing about gares in Paris are the multiple types of trains operated by different authorities. Suburban trains run by the Ile-de-France regional authority are Transilien branded trains.  But, they also operate RER branded trains that serve many of those same suburbs, usually making more frequent stops. RER A trains and RER B trains are run by the Paris regional transport authority (RATP).  All other RER trains are run by Transilien.

Intercity trains or “major trains” (ie. grande lignes in French) departing from gares often share the same train platforms with the regional RER and Transilien trains.  The brands of intercity trains include: TGV (France), iDTGV (France), TGV Lyria (Franco-Swiss), Thalys (Belgium/Netherlands/Luxembourg/Germany), Eurostar (London/Paris), ICE (Germany), Intercities (France), Ter (France) and perhaps soon AVE (Spain).

Important note: Within the city of Paris, you can almost always use a ‘ticket t+‘, but if your destination requires the use of a suburban train, you will have to buy a ‘Billet Origine-Destination’ ticket, which is a station-to-station priced ticket. This means that a day trip to Versailles from Paris by train will require a ‘billet Origine-Destination’ (but a day trip to Versailles from Paris via bus can be paid for by ‘ticket t+’).

Hope this removes some of the mystery of Paris public transportation.
