Carte Orange or Paris Visite?

Postby porty on Mon Sep 15, 2008 3:23 pm

My wife and I arrive in Paris on Thursday the 2nd of October 2008. We have a very full itinerary in Paris which will entail lots of Metro transport. We are also going to Euro Disney on Monday the 6th & to Versailles on Tuesday the 7th. We depart Paris on Thursday the 9th and may need to take the RER to CDG Airport.

My question is should we get the Passe Navigo Decouverte or would we be better off with the Paris Viste? I am a little confused as to when we can purchase the Passe Navigo Decouverte since we arrive on a Thursday I gather that it would not become active until the following Monday. Is that correct?

Hi Porty,

The Navigo Decouverte card won't be usable until Monday morning if purchased on Friday. And sales for the current week stop on Wednesday end of service (I'm double checking this).

The Navigo pass card can be purchased at nearly any ticket window in either Metro, RER or SNCF Train stations (such as at Airport CDG 1 or Terminal 2/TGV station).

If you plan on traveling by Metro and RER a lot for the first few days, I'd suggest getting either the 3 day Paris Visite card, or simply buying Mobilis day tickets when in Paris (if you're staying with zones 1-2). Keep in mind that the ticket Mobilis is not valid between CDG airport and Paris, whereas the Paris Visite 6 zone is.

On Monday, or anytime during the weekend, you could purchase a Pass Navigo Découverte and with 5 zones which will cover you for CDG Airport, Versailles, and Euro Disney.

Best regards,

Ben
