So this is really strange. Neither my credit cards nor debit card (from two different American banks, two Visa one MasterCard) will work in ticket machines or at ticket windows). When I try to use them, I get a message saying that my card will not be accepted. My friend, also with American credit cards, has had the same problem. I called my bank about it and they say there is nothing wrong with my cards. They think that there is some reason why the train station credit card readers are unable to connect to their database, but they honestly don't know what is going on. I have never had a problem using my cards in Europe before.

Anyone else had this problem?

Hi Thornhill,

Only credit cards with pin number protection and smart-chips will work at Paris train station ticket machines.
