different trains different platforms

what a great site ... but after seeing how large the Gare De Lyon Station is .. I'm a bit concerned that I am going to even find my train let alone get on it! I have downloaded the maps .. but is there any consistency in which platform the same train may leave from? for instance there is a 7.42am train (TGM#9241 that leaves direct for Milan every day (I assume after checking timetables) can anyone tell me what platform colour and number it may leave from ??? ps I am booked on this train in May.I think I really need to plan this adventure in the train station!

Hi Barb,

Unfortunately the lane or voie from which a train leaves on any given day can change from day to day, depending on how busy things are. The same train usually leaves from the same voie each time, but this is not always true. The best way to know which voie it will be leaving from is to refer to the large departures board for each zone at Gare de Lyon, which gives colors and lane letters or numbers. This is explained in the Gare de Lyon photo tour.

Really, you don't have to worry about not figuring this out. It's really evident how it all works when arriving and there are signs everywhere pointing towards both the blue and yellow platforms. By just arriving a few minutes earlier than you would normally, you'll give yourself enough time to look around and see how it works.

Best regards,

Ben

thanks again Ben for the info, we are travelling on Eurail pass and have reservations. can you tell me if we need to visit a 'ticket window' or something/some-one else to validate before we board?
