For example, when you post a question to the Questions and Answers forum, when someone like me replies, you won't know that I've replied unless you come back to the forum and check it.
By "subscribing" to topics, the forum will automatically send you an email whenever a reply is posted.
You can subscribe to topics in two different ways. If you're adding a new topic such as a question to the Questions and Answers forum, when you've finished writing your question, before submitting it, check the checkbox entitled "Notify me when a reply is posted" under Options below the Submit button.

If you're simply reading a Topic that interests you and you want to follow the conversation by email, click the Subscribe to Topic link at the bottom of the page.

You can also do the same with entire Forums, such as the Questions and Answers forum. By subscribing to a forum any time a new topic is posted or a reply is made to a topic, you'll receive an email notifying you.
