Navigo Decouverte renewals, Carte Orange phase-out

Postby ParisJunky on Mon Dec 08, 2008 2:57 pm

Couple of quick questions, if anyone can answer, that would be great!

1. Can the Navigo Decouverte be renewed online, without the additional 5E fee? I'll be in Paris for 5 weeks and would like to initially get the Navigo for one week, 5 zones, to cover trip in from airport, (plus a trip to versailles etc.) Then simply renew online for one month (2 zones only), without having to pay the additional 5E fee. I undertand the traditional Navigo does not come with the 5E fee but is linked to a French bank account which I do not have.

2. Alternatively, I've been using Carte Orange for years, I understand that they are no longer supported, but: can I still buy the tickets for them? It's weird that the SNCF still refers to the Carte Orange but I understood they have been cancelled (or perhaps only being phased out)

Thanks in advance!

Hi Dave,

If you already have a Navigo Découverte card, the 5€ was a one time fee, you don't ever have to pay it again, except if you lose your card.

You cannot renew Navigo cards online, but there are plenty of machines at Charles de Gaulle Airport and at any station within Paris for recharging your Découverte pass. If you don't have a PIN protected credit/debit card with a smart-chip, you'll have to use a ticket window to pay for renewing your pass. The automated machines do not take euro notes, only coins.

Carte Orange tickets were removed from sale this past May.

Carte Orange as a pricing system remains, it's just the plasticized tickets that have been removed.

Best regards,

Ben
