using Paris Visite

Postby BEck on Wed Mar 18, 2009 10:41 pm

Hello,
Very nice website. I will be traveling to Paris for 5 days and staying with a friend who lives near the La Fourche stop on line 13. I plan to make a day trip to Belgium and a day trip to (Germany, Luxembourg or Switzerland--haven't decide which of the 3). For my time in Paris, I will only stick to visit the major sites like the Eiffel tower, Notre Dame, etc. Should I just buy a 3 zone Paris Visite for my son and I? Can I simply pay extra to go to and from CDG airport? Do you have any advice regarding economical ways to take my day trips to Beligium and Switzerland?
Thanks!

HI Beck,

If you plan on making 5 or more trips per day on the Metro or Bus for a continuous 5 day stretch, then the Paris Visite 3 zone will work out nicely for you and your son.

Otherwise, I'd recommend buying carnets (books of ten or twenty individual tickets) and using that for your public transport needs while in Paris.

Paris to CDG by train is covered by Billet Ile-de-France train tickets, which are station to station tickets for destinations not within central Paris. You cannot simply "top-up" a Paris Visite 3 zone to get access to CDG, unfortunately. You could travel to the limit of the 3rd zone and then exit the RER station, then re-enter the station with a Billet Ile-de-France, specifically for that location to CDG, but that's a bit extreme.

Thalys services Paris to Belgium highspeed trains. TGV services western Switzerland as well.

Best regards,

Ben
