Hotel/Train question

By | February 21, 2025 | in

Hi. My wife and I have an overnight stay in Paris in August, 2025. We land at the CDG Airport about 6:00 am and depart the next afternoon at about 2:00 pm. We are planning to take a Canauxrama tour that sails both the Saint-Martin Canal and the Seine.
Is it better to to take the RER train close to the start point of the tour (close to Hôtel du Nord) and stay there OR should be take the RER train to the Saint-Michel/Norte Dame area and stay there?

From a cost perspective, hotels in the north of Paris are likely significantly less expensive than those around Notre Dame / Seine area, but there's not much to see or do in that area save for Montmartre / Sacre Coeur.

If price is not too large a factor than staying in Saint-Michel / Notre Dame is very lovely, picturesque and very convenient in terms of access to the end of the tour (I assume it will end in that area or just south east of there).  And also Saint-Michel is very close (walking distance) to many popular neighbourhoods / famous places to visit.  If you're short on time and would like to see the most possible, I'd recommend this area over Hotel du Nord.
