I am completely mystified by the wierd platform numbering at Melun Station (RER line D): 1, 1b, A, 2b, 2, 1c, 2c.  Please explain what is the purpose of this wierd numbering convention in respect of the seven platforms there.
Chers Messieurs-Dames

Hi,
Sorry, I'm not sure I have any useful information on which platforms at Melun are usually servicing which lines.  I'm sure there are platforms which are more likely to service the train you're looking for, but without actually being in front of the video screens detailing that information at the time you're traveling, I couldn't tell you which platform will be used for which train.

Often these video screens are available for viewing before you climb stairs so that people can avoid the issue of arriving at the wrong platform.

If you're taking RER D from Melun to Gare du Nord, the video screens should say "Creil" which is northbound towards Gare du Nord from Melun. This is the platform you want to get to Gare du Nord from Melun station.

Hope this helps,
Ben
